SENATOR PHILLIP BLUSTER is a huge 10-inch deep raspberry purple unusual form with a lighter raspberry watermark and a diamond-dusted yellow throat. When it begins blooming in the mid-late season it opens big and flat and as the season heats up, sepals quill, twist, hook, and curl with different looks every day. A vigorous increaser with scapes averaging 34" with 5-way branching and 30 buds. Rebloom scapes that start later in the season have an additional 14 buds to extend your season. Light fragrance! From the same seed pod as GO BIG OR GO HOME, crossing these siblings could have amazing results! (HIGH WATERMARK x DAVI'S GIFT) X THE SENATOR. Beautiful foliage with hardy, hard dormant plant habit. Fertile both ways. Tetraploid.
I'm excited to introduce my first "color-changing" watermark. SMOKING IN THE BOYS ROOM is an 8" dark purple cascade with a diamond-dusted chartreuse throat that starts blooming in the early mid-season with a smoky blue-gray watermark. As the summer heats up, the watermark changes to a multi-hued watermark with navy, light purple, charcoal, and a dark purple pencil line that drifts through the watermark. I've seen multi-hued eye zones in a few southern evergreens but never in a hardy, dormant plant. From my HIGH WATER LINE X SULTRY GIRLS, SMOKING IN THE BOYS ROOM has tall 38" scapes with ideal 5-way branching, 20 buds, and it reblooms for a long bloom season. Fragrant, too! It's easily fertile both ways even when it's hot, offering line bred, hardy genetics for serious hybridizers. Tetraploid. Very limited with collections taking priority.
SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER is a graceful 6" diamond dusted cream pink with a gently pleated chartreuse throat and a pie crust ruffled edge. Waxy substance makes it totally weather proof. Scapes are 33" with 4-way branching, 24 buds and it reblooms. A mid to late season bloomer that is easily fertile both ways. Flawless foliage. An evergreen from two hardy evergreen parents FAD GADGET X LITTLE BIG EARS. Tetraploid.
SOAPBOX SALLY (Davisson 14) is a 9" ivory and peach blend with a yellow to green throat that blooms during the mid to late season. From a cross of AL'S PEACH TOWER X AMAZING ADAM, the scapes are sturdy and 46" tall with 4-way branching, 17 buds and it reblooms for lots of late season bloom. Gorgeous dormant foliage. Fertile both ways, but not easy as a pod parent. Tetraploid.
Another season extender, SPUNKY GIRLS is consistently one of the first to bloom in my garden every spring. It is an 8 1/2" saturated purple with a darker purple band, twisting sepals, and a diamond dusted yellow throat. It is so strongly recurrent, it reblooms well into the mid-season bearing waxy blooms with rainproof and sunfast substance. Scapes are 33" with 3-way branching and 15 buds with new scapes bringing bouquets of blooms. It is easily fertile both as a pod and pollen parent. SPUNKY GIRLS is a tetraploid from crossing one of my unregistered seedlings: (GIMMEE GIMMEE GIMMEE X MICHAEL DAVISSON) X HAWKWOMAN with MAKE IT SNAPPY. It has hardy, dormant plant habit with unblemished foliage and clumps quickly
SPUTNIK lights up the early season with 8" gently pleated bi-tone blooms that are purple with a lighter lilac purple watermark and sepals. The diamond dusted patterned applique throat often dots out onto the petals. Instant rebloom extends the bloom well into the mid-season where summer heat makes petals gracefully twist and turn. Sturdy scapes are 35 inches with 4-way branching and 18 buds. SPUTNIK is a hard dormant with pretty blue green foliage that is easily fertile both ways. A complex heritage from two seedlings: (ANGELUS BLUE SKIES x MICHAEL DAVISSON) X ((WIND IN THE RIGGING x STILL THE ONE)) x HIGH WATER MARK. Tetraploid.
STEVE'S MAGIC is a voluptuous 8 inch saturated purple with a huge orchid watermark and a diamond dusted chartreuse throat that starts blooming in the early season and reblooms thru the midseason. Gently ruffled blooms have a waxy, heavy substance that make them sunfast and rainproof. Master seed seller, Steve Todd, made the cross which was my HIGH WATER MARK X Steve's DAVI'S GIFT. Steve gifted me the seeds that became this beauty with line-bred northern hardy genetics that beautifully combine his introduction from TET ROSE F KENNEDY and VICTORIA JOSEPHINE backcrossed with my related lines. Sturdy 32 inch scapes are bud builders with ideal 4- and 5-way branching averaging 26 buds per scape plus another 20 buds on the rebloom scapes. Semi-evergreen foliage is flawless and because it is an easy parent both ways, the genetic potential is leading edge and unlimited. The siblings to STEVE'S MAGIC show tendencies toward pleating in the throat making it a possibility for those working with sculpted/pleated forms. It could easily work with unusual forms and rounder forms as well. Perfect for those working with green throats and fabulous watermarks. STEVE'S MAGIC has a loose, gracefully recurved form with elongated petals and is registered as a large flower rather than an unusual form.
STRUTTING IN STILETTOS is an 8" gold unusual form that stands tall on 50" scapes with 5-way branching, 25 buds. A partial cream yellow midrib punctuates the watermark. Scapes are 38" with 3 to 6 way branching, 24 buds. Flawless, semi-evergreen foliage. Increases quickly forming a showy clump. Crispate petals have serrated tips. My most innovative unusual form to date, opening a new frontier in the development of coral and orange daylilies! It's a late-season bloomer with scapes averaging 36" that display 24 blooms to perfection. Deliciously fragrant. Hardy, hard dormant plant habit with beautiful foliage and vigorous increase. Easily fertile both ways even when it is hot. (Dr. Fred Knocke seedling x SPACECOAST STARBURST) X JUDY'S WORLD. The Knocke seedling was also the parent of my Stout Medal contender, MEAN GREEN. Tetraploid.
A complex 8 1/2" purple crispate with a lighter purple watermark, diamond-dusted chartreuse appliqué throat, and fine white edges. Standing tall and stately and like most Senators going on and on and on for what seems forever, THE SENATOR has the longest bloom season of any plant in my garden starting early-midseason and then reblooming well into the late season. It's a perfectly formed 10" raspberry purple spatulate monster with a lighter raspberry watermark and heavy substance that is both rain proof and sun fast. Always opens wide and flat. Scapes are 38" with 5 widely spaced branches, 32 buds, with instant rebloom scapes slightly taller at 41" with 4-way branching for an additional 18 buds making it a bloom machine!! Hardy, dormant plant habit from an unregistered seedling (LOUD GIRLS X WHITE EYES PINK DRAGON) X unknown. The sibling to IRISH MIXUP. Pollen fertile and likely pod fertile in cooler climates as I see fluid on the stigma almost every time it blooms. Beautiful foliage and vigorous plants. Tetraploid.
TICKLE FINGERS is a pretty 7" lilac cascade unusual form with a unique watermark that is a blend of melon and orchid. I'm beginning to see watermarks with more than one color in my seedlings and believe this is a grand, new direction to take in a hybridizing program....multicolored watermarks!!! TICKLE FINGERS has a nice well-balanced plant under it, as well, with 32 inch scapes, 4 and 5 way branching, 21 to 24 buds. Hardy, dormant plant habit gives it flawless foliage and it's EASILY fertile both ways....even when it's hot. The mid to late season bloomer is from a cross of CURT'S GIFT x an unregistered seedling: (SWALLOWTAIL KITE X LIGHTHOUSE NORTH) x WHITE EYES PINK DRAGON. The pollen parent is a tall lilac with a melon watermark so TICKLE FINGERS has great hybridizing potential for unusually colored watermarks.
TIGER TOWN is the home of last year's national football champions....Clemson University!!!! And a champion daylily it is with massive 41" scapes with five way branching and 30 buds. It is also a bud builder with 9" bright orange crispate and cascade blooms. Ruffled edges, a diamond dusted chartreuse throat, curling sepals, and dormant plant habit is a winning combination! From DOCTOR HANDSOME X UNKNOWN, it has a long bloom season. Pollen fertile. Tetraploid
TOWER POWER is something totally different for hybridizers and gardeners alike. It's a huge 8" showy cream peach, yellow, and pink polychrome open form that is displayed on tall 42" scapes with wide 5- to 6-way branching and 29 buds. Strongly recurrent, it starts blooming early midseason and continues through late season. Exceptional plant habit comes from its pollen parent, AL'S PEACH TOWER, a line bred descendant of TET FRANCIS FAY. The pod parent is Webster's COSMIC RAY. Blooms always open without crowding and are extremely fragrant blooming right under your nose where you can smell them. Exceptional plant habit carries through to seedlings...it can improve the height and branching on round forms or improve the strength of scapes on more spidery forms equally well. The color is a clarifier. Difficult but not impossible as a pod parent; easy as a pollen parent. Semi-evergreen.
TREVOR is a whopping 10" dark lavender unusual form with a slightly lighter watermark and a diamond dusted chartreuse throat.
